Today it’s my pleasure to welcome to the blog the lovely (and chatty!) Blaine D. Arden–one of our Spotlight Authors who’s travelling over from mainland Europe. Blaine will be hard to miss with her purple hair and loud laugh, and I’m sure anyone who’s been to the last two Meets will remember her well! Take it away, Blaine 🙂
1) Tell us about yourself in 100 words or fewer.
Born and raised in Zutphen, the Netherlands, I started out shy and prissy—though fond of unisex clothing—but grew into a more extroverted chatterbox somewhere along the way. These days I’m a purple haired, forty-something, genderqueer writer of gay and trans* romance with a love of men, music, mystery, magic, fairies, platform shoes, and the colours black, purple and red, who sings her way through life, and wants to be in a band when she grows up. 🙂
2) Tell us something about you that might come as a surprise!
I can actually be quiet.
3) What do you like most about the LGBTQ genre?
Getting to write the characters I care about most, and being able to write worlds where the fluidity of gender and sexuality is taken as is.
Also, getting to show the world how beautiful love between men can be through my writing, the way I’ve wanted to since I was 16, and seeing the world change accordingly (though… a bit faster wouldn’t hurt).
4) What are you most looking forward to about UK Meet?
Connecting with kindred spirits, old and new. To have fun and talk about books and writing, whether gay sex or the most horrible ways to kill off characters, without getting weird looks.
5) If you had one wish which would come true at UK Meet, what would that be?
To have Josh Lanyon as a surprise keynote speaker and getting to meet him 🙂
A girl can dream, right?
